About the picture
This image was taken in Bandipur National Park in 2012. Gowri, the tigress mother was resting in this pool of water after making a kill. Her 4 sub-adult cubs never allowed her to rest properly as she was exhausted after the kill. The dominant male cub was quite bold and was very obviously mama’s favourite. As part of his game, he went behind her to seek refuge and peeped at us over her head making the image very interesting.
Fun Fact
The vocal repertoire of tigers is vast - they grunt, growl, roar, moan, snarl, chuff, hiss, and gasp with each vocalisation used to communicate different things.
