Did you know?
In the wild, a mother tiger invests significant time and effort into raising her cubs to ensure their survival and success. The mother also guides them in learning the nuances of their territory, teaching them to recognise potential threats and sources of food. Her dedication and guidance are instrumental in preparing the cubs for an independent life, setting them on the path to becoming formidable and self-reliant predators. The essence of family bonds and the enduring beauty of these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat is simply stunning to sight.
About the picture
This photo was clicked in Bandipur National Park in 2012. Gowri, the tigress, had made a Sambar deer kill for her 4 sub-adult cubs to feed on. After all 4 had eaten their share, they waded into this waterhole to drink, cool off, and rest. The cubs were still in a playful mood and would disturb the exhausted mother constantly by jumping on her or pulling her tail. Finally, 2 of her cubs came and sat next to her and gave us this perfect ‘family portrait’ pose.
Fun Fact
The Sumatran tiger has webbed feet, which makes it an especially skilled swimmer.
