According to research conducted across many wildlife sanctuaries, male tigers have a home range size of approximately 5-150km in areas with good prey density and it could go upto 1200km in Siberia while females' home range size is about 5-70 km2. Their territory size also depends on prey abundance and geographic area. Adults of both sexes generally confine their movements to their home ranges.
About the picture
This image of the tigress was taken in May 2019 in Nagarahole National Park. We were in the middle of an uneventful safari when the spotted deer that were grazing peacefully suddenly started a series of alarm calls. This meant that there was a high chance of a predator on the move! We waited and watched silently and in 5 minutes, she emerged into the open. She seemed hesitant and anxious as she paused to look around before moving forward, giving us those extra seconds to click this picture.
Fun Fact
A tiger’s tail is almost half the length of its body.
