The Vernal Hanging Parrot is a small parrot that is a resident breeder in the Indian subcontinent and some other areas of Southeast Asia. This is the only parrot species found in India. This is a small, mainly green, hanging parrot. The adult male has a red rump and beak, and a blue throat patch. The female has a green patch. They frequent the banyan tree for the fruit and plantain trees for the nectar from flowers.
About the picture
This Vernal Hanging Parrot was drinking the nectar from the Flame of the Forest flowers when I clicked this picture near Kalasa in the Western Ghats.

The adult Vernal Hanging Parrot is only 14 cm (5.5 inches) in length.
