Did you know?

To protect just one tiger, we have to conserve an estimated 10,000 hectares of forest. Tigers can directly help some of the world’s poorest communities. Conservation and growth of the tiger population can also provide huge tourism opportunities for communities with few alternatives to earn money.

About the picture

This tigress was photographed in Nov 2020 in Nagarahole National Park (Kabini). This tigress was sitting on the bank of a waterhole and resting. As is the norm, in wildlife photography, patience is everything. We had to wait for quite some time and it was getting late in the evening. Naturally, as the sun began to set, she moved towards the waterhole and was very cautious before drinking water. Normally, they look for crocodiles before entering the water. It was when she was making her way along the water, that I took the opportunity of getting this perfect picture of her reflection.

Fun Fact

Unlike most other cats, tigers love the water. They can be seen sitting in water to escape flies or cool off.
