Did you know?

The interaction between a tiger and its cubs is a heartwarming and essential aspect of their social behaviour. Tiger cubs rely entirely on their mother for care and protection during their early months. The mother tiger spends a significant amount of time nurturing and teaching essential survival skills, such as hunting and grooming to her cubs. Playful interactions between the mother and cubs strengthen their bond and help the young ones develop their physical abilities and coordination, preparing them for independence in the wild.

About the picture

This image of the interaction between a tiger mother and her sub-adult cub was captured in Bandipur National Park in 2012. Gowri, the tigress mother, had made a kill of a sambar deer and was totally exhausted. She was resting in a pool of water. One of her four cubs came and disturbed her, which agitated her and caused her to growl at the cub. The guilty expression on the cub's face could be seen distinctly.

Fun Fact

Tigers, like all cats, cannot taste anything sweet.
