About the picture
This female Yellow-Cheeked Gibbon was photographed in Vietnam’s Cat Tien National Park in 2023. Being arboreal (living on trees), her long arms help her swing through branches. Here she can be seen showing off her dexterity as she uses her arms to balance on top of a tree.
Fun Fact
Males and females are born with blond fur that later turns black. However, females go back to being blond when they reach sexual maturity and retain only a tiny patch of black fur on the top of their heads.
