Did you know?

The Silver-Breasted Broadbill is found across South-East Asia in tropical and sub-tropical moist lowland and montane regions. It feeds on insects and invertebrates such as land snails, mantises, grasshoppers, caterpillars, etc. This is a small bird with a distinctly silky, smooth-feathered appearance. It has a warm soft brown upper body with a black crescent above the eye and a glossy blue patch on the dark wings.

About the picture

This beautiful male Silver-Breasted Broadbill can be seen enjoying a spot of sunshine on a wet morning. The colours on his plumage really pop in the light. This was photographed earlier this year (2023) in Vietnam.

Fun Fact

While foraging, the Silver-Breasted Broadbill prefers to join medium-sized flocks of its own species and does not usually join mixed-species flocks.
