Did you know?

The original inhabitants of Chobe National Park in Botswana were the San bushmen. They were nomadic hunter-gatherers who were constantly moving from place to place to find food sources, namely fruit, water, and wild animals. The idea of a national park which would protect the varied local wildlife and promote tourism was first proposed in 1931 but it was only in 1960 that it was declared a national park.

About the picture

This photograph was taken in 2018 when I visited Chobe National Park in Botswana. This African Elephant and her young calf were grazing out in the open. The young one was a little unsure of us and didn't leave its mother’s side.

Fun Fact

Rock paintings by the San bushmen can still be found inside rocky hills within the park.
