The Reticulated Giraffe is native to the Horn of Africa. It lives in Somalia, southern Ethiopia, and northern Kenya. There are approximately 8,500 individuals living in the wild and is classified as ‘Endangered’ by the IUCN. Its coat consists of large, polygonal, brown blocks outlined by a network of bright white lines. The blocks may sometimes appear deep red and may also cover the legs.
About the picture
This photo was taken at Samburu National Park, Kenya, in 2012. This herd of Reticulated Giraffes was eating the tender leaves from the top of the thorny acacia trees when I clicked this picture.

Sadly, most of the giraffes you can see in zoos around the world are Reticulated Giraffes.
