The Cheetah is a large cat native to Africa. It is the fastest land animal, capable of running at 80 to 112 km per hour. The Cheetah has evolved specialised adaptations for speed, including a light build, long thin legs, and a long tail. The Cheetah is threatened by several factors such as habitat loss, conflict with humans, poaching, and high susceptibility to diseases. it is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Unlike the other big cats, the Cheetah prefers to hunt during the day, especially at dawn and right before dusk.

About the picture

This image of a running Cheetah was taken in Masai Mara in 2022. This Cheetah was younger and was being chased out by another more dominant Cheetah. You can see a tinge of uncertainty, and possibly fear, on the Cheetah’s face.

Fun Fact

One stride of a galloping Cheetah measures 4 to 7 m (13 to 23 ft).
