About the picture

This male tiger was photographed in Pench National Park (Maharashtra) in January 2023. He had made a kill and had hidden the carcass in tall grass. Occasionally, he would come out to drink water and cool himself. On this day, when he was feeding on the kill, we could hear the roar of another tiger. Alarmed by the intruder’s proximity, he came out and started walking in the direction of the roar to make sure that his territory and his kill are safe.

Fun Fact

A tiger's upper canine is about 4 inches (10 cm) long, which is about the size of an adult human’s index finger.
