Did you know?

The Sloth Bear, also known as the Indian Bear, is native to the Indian subcontinent. It feeds on fruits, ants, and termites. It is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, mainly because of habitat loss and illegal poaching. It has also been called Labiated Bear because of its long lower lip and palate used for sucking up insects. The Sloth Bear has long, shaggy fur, a mane around the face, and long, sickle-shaped claws.

About the picture

This image of a Sloth Bear resting on a rock was captured on a hot sunny afternoon in Ranthambhore National Park. He was in deep sleep despite the blazing heat, and when our vehicle stopped, he partially opened his eyes but was still not fully awake.
