About the picture
The Basur Kaval grassland is a mixed vegetation of tropical savannah and tropical scrub jungle in the Kadur Range of Chikkamagaluru Forest Division, Karnataka. The grassland was being used for grazing purposes. When I visited Basur Kaval, I was able to take some photos of these endangered Indian Wolves, including this photo of a breeding pair. We submitted photos to our seniors in the Forest Department and were instrumental in getting Basur Kaval declared as a conservation reserve. This is why I truly believe that when done ethically, wildlife photography is an excellent conservation tool.
Fun Fact
Indian wolves are apex predators. They can cover major distances easily while chasing prey and can maintain a speed of 34 mph (55 kph).
