Did you know?
Sunsets and sunrises at Masai Mara are spectacular. For anyone who has been to Africa, you will know that the sunsets, especially, are amazing. This is due, in part, to the large amount of dust in the atmosphere which helps to refract light from the sun and paint the sky in those brilliant orange, reds, purples, and yellows.
About the picture
This silhouette photo of Masai Giraffes and Antelope taken at sunset in Masai Mara is one of my favourites. The sunset that particular day was even more special and had a purplish hue. The position of the giraffes also adds to the beauty.
Fun Fact
The word, silhouette, is derived from the name of Étienne de Silhouette, a French finance minister. Because of de Silhouette's austere economic policies, his name became synonymous with anything done or made cheaply. Prior to the advent of photography, silhouette profiles cut from black cards were the cheapest way of recording a person's appearance.
