Did you know?

Lions in a pride protect each other from outsiders and predators. Prides can consist of 2 – 40 lions – this includes some male lions, a dozen or more lionesses and cubs. The key role of the pride leader is to safeguard the pride. In a real pride of lions, the pride leader has the duty to defend the lionesses and their cubs. The pride leader shares this responsibility with other males in the pride.

About the picture

This photo of a pride of lions relaxing on a giant boulder at sunset was taken in Masai Mara in 2022. The pride had been feeding on a zebra and once everyone had filled their tummies, they moved to relax on the cool stone.

Fun Fact

A hundred years ago, Africa had more than 200,000 lions. Currently, there are about 20,000 left in the wild.
