Did you know?
Although lion cubs are already interested in hunting at a year old, these skills will only be proficient at around two years old. The cubs are often seen watching the adults as they hunt. The females in the pride teach the cubs this essential skill. Once they are older, the mother may injure its prey enough that it won't be able to run too fast and allow the cubs to practice the killing techniques.
About the picture
This photo was taken in Masai Mara in 2016. The pride had ambushed and successfully brought down this Wildebeest but because there were some young sub-adult cubs in the pride, they were allowed to finish the hunt. It was incredible to watch this learning moment. As you can see, the cubs seem to be a bit unsure about what is to be done next.
Fun Fact
Lions are the laziest of the big cats, spending 20 hours a day just sleeping.
